Litter & Fly-Tipping

Litter & Fly-Tipping

Northamptonshire's Stop The Drop Campaign Campaign To Protect Rural England (CPRE)

Litter and fly-tipping has reached such devastating proportions throughout Great Britain that a nationwide campaign was launched under the auspices of the CPRE to eradicate this problem.

In Northamptonshire around 1,000 incidents of fly tipping are reported to the District and Borough Councils every month and it is estimated that clearing this illegally dumped waste costs the county in excess of £650,000.

The Parish Council has joined in the CPRE's Campaign and on an annual basis organise our own Community Litter Picks.  Over the years so many parishioners have supported us (in 2011 -over one third of the village population with an age range from 2 - 80!) on these enjoyable Saturday morning "Litter Picks".  These occasions have fostered great community spirit, raised awareness of the issue and we feel make a real difference to the local environment where we all live.  Sadly however it is obvious to us all here in the village that that the "culprits" of the litter and fly tipping are outsiders who have indiscriminately filled our ditches and hedgerows with their rubbish having no regard or respect whatsoever for our village countryside.

But the results speak for themselves and we do feel we are winning the battle of the litter as you will see from the figures below.

2011 - just one Trailer Load of Rubbish

2010 - two Trailer loads of Rubbish

2009 - six Trailer loads of Rubbish

Litter Heroes Award

We are very proud to have been named as the 2016 CPRE Northamptonshire Litter Hero Awards winners for our magnificent efforts in the Clean for the Queen litter picks we held in April 2016.  The Parish Council will be awarded a cheque for £500 in September to be spent on litter related items.

When the Village won this prize back in 2010 it used the money to purchase its own litter picking sticks.
